The film Unstoppable is actually based on a true story in the year 2001, in which involved a runaway CSX Transportation engine.

The locomotive is spotted the number 8888 (above) , and not 777 (below) as in the film. 8888 is a SD40-2 model, made more than 25 years earlier. While 777 is a purchased fictional locomotive.
